CASINOS
GREAT CANADIAN CASINO COMPANY
West Hawk Building, Nanaimo, British Columbia Canada
Initially our work was to do a zoning check, report on the neighbourhood and an overview of the building's physical conditions. Like many cities, Nanaimo had seen its core deteriorate and the casino was seen as a way to get people and life into the downtown again. We did several design schemes based on how much of the existing commercial plaza could be taken over by the casino from existing tenants. Computer models were used to convey the intended design.
In the end the casino occupies approximately 2,600 m2 (28,000 sq.ft.) on three levels. The main level contains the Gaming Floor, restaurant, washrooms, public support spaces and the Back-of-House. The Lower Level contains storage and work rooms as well as the back-up electrical generator. The Upper Levelcontains the employee spaces.
